It's taken over...well, at least partly

Yesterday was a great day with no temptations or desires to really "slip." What I realized at the gym last night was that I am naturally competitive, but I HATE that this Whole30 is going to turn into a "contest" of sorts.  That is all that people are talking about and it is getting annoying.  Support is one thing, but seriously, can we have a real conversation that doesn't revolve around food.  By doing nothing other than talk about food forces me to almost think about nothing other than food and then I think about the foods I have cut out and well, you know how that goes.  It's like that old saying "what we resist persists."  So, does that mean that if I keep resisting ice-cream and wine that those cravings will persist?!  I hope not!!!!

  1. Hey Melissa,

Just remember the "contest" part is only for those who want to compete. That's why I'm calling it the Whole30 "Challenge", as in individual challenge to make different choices and to chose a different way of living and relating to food and what goes into our body - and perhaps even more importantly, "why" we chose the stuff that we put into our mouth.

Hang in there, the buzz of the food talk will subside soon - I think it's just the excitement and nervousness surrounding the challenge that has everyone so food-focused. Which, in some respects is good, because too many of our athletes have been too checked out with their nutrition.

Thanks for the great posts and insights!

  2. Thanks for the reminder, Chris. Sometimes that frustration takes over....

I am excited about the changes we have made in our house already and I am certain that it will be great to be around others who are going through the same thing!
